FMP Illustration

So I've finally, well nearly finished my FMP Illustration (as shown above) I am extremely happy with the outcome so far as I have spent days putting it together but it still need a bit of touching up before printing. My target audience for this illustration was Visionary, I feel it meets this target audience as it is an innovative design and very much out there. I went for the whole industrial theme with the robot like figure and matte black garment. I have interpreted my inspiration for my FMP dress into my illustrations as I gained inspiration from the underground tunnels, which made me think of the London under ground map which I have used as a layer on my illustration. By using the tunnel map it helps bring out the neon strips in the garment, however as I said there is areas that need changing for example I am going to try and put a motion effect on top of this so it basically looks like the model is in mid action and it creates a light trial from the neon strips, which gives it a really cool effect. On the other hand I feel this illustration is very much out there and makes me think wait what is that? and isn't that what visionary is? Outrages, innovative, over the top designs.

Behind the scene of my photo shoot

As well as me modelling for Megs shoot last week, I also had my own photo shoot for the biker chic shirt dress.
I styled my model with a leather jacket, silver chain and black lace up boots. I went for a smokey eye and a dark eyebrow, I also french plaited a side of the hair and let the rest of the hair fall naturally.

So last week my good friend Meg asked me to model this outfit she had made from that material I told you about in a previous post (the one about the out of the blue photo shoot.) It was good fun, the photographer was great! and I can't fault anything about the shoot, apart from I look like a little girl!

The process of my illustration

Once I had got all my ideas together and decided what I was going to do for my Illustration, It was time to start the real illustration. I had photocopied several pages of my final figure, this was because I had to use them as a stencil for different areas of the figure as I wanted strips of neon in between the matte black areas.

 So I firstly started off by cutting out the areas that I wanted to black paint to be in, I then scrapped the paint with the plastic in the areas that needed it.

 I came across a small problem while carrying this process out, the paint ran over and leaked into areas that it wasn't suppose to be in!

 This was a problem as it leaked over to the areas where the neon strip was going and it didn't look slick enough for my theme.

 Therefore I re did the stencils and made sure I stuck down the sides so it didn't let the paint leak over.

This made the neon strips look a lot better and slick.

I then added on a penciled arm and pen slinky bracelet.


All that is left to do is scan this illustration into photo shop and work on placing a neck and head onto the body and also giving it this motion effect that I wanted. Its hard to explain but if I show you a picture of a moving train and the light streaming off it, then you will get my idea. (Hopefully)

So I want the beams of light coming off the neon strips on my illustration. This process is my next stage of my illustration which will hopefully be carried out in the next week but I will post it straight away once its finished!!

Experimenting my own illustration

The other day I started to work on creating my own illustration that conveyed my FMP dress, I didn't have a clue where to start, I had sampled out many different medias before hand but I was still clueless. I finally decided to place my dress on the mannequin and start to draw from different angles, to see which was best.

I then choose to the best angle and experimented more with it, playing around with the proportion and angle. Once I had got a good enough figure/ angle that I was happy with, I moved onto experimenting with what medias I would use. I knew that thick acrylic would be best but I wasn't sure which was the best way to use it. I sampled out layering different paints on top of each other to give it that thick industrial look, but I also tested out scrapping the paint down with a piece of plastic and layering that up. This technique worked out best as it gave the best outcome.

Practising our own Illustration

So as you know I've been doing a lot of illustration work recently, looking into different medias and which would be best for my style and theme. This weekend our aim was to try out a few more styles ready for us to create our own illustration board that represented our FMP Dress. So I carried out my own little experiment, I tried out magazine collage with thick dark paint to try and convey my industrial themed style. I used a models body and head out of a magazine and worked on top of it. My next style I want to try is stitching ripped fabric on the top of the thick paint, maybe ill try this one out tomorrow. Anyway this is how I went on..

FMP dress

I've finally finished my FMP dress, it is all ready and clean for fittings week. I am so pleased and glad I have finished and haven't fallen behind with it! There were some exciting times but there was also the stressing out and nearly giving up times, after having to cut out the same material more than three times. But I'm not going to bore you with me talking all the way through how I manufactured the final stages of my garments but I will put up a few pictures of the process so you get the right idea.
